Bad Day at EGNV

My UK partner in Aircraft sales Matthew Fox had his 182 blow over in the wind. A visiting 757 took the hangar spots I hear. Other aircraft were damaged including one I had just sold to the flight school there over Xmas.

Was it tied down?

Had the owner checked the weather forecast?

Mega ouch! It was just painted, wasn’t it? I believe I have it in my bookmarks of “for sale” ads, albeit in the “wish I could afford it” folder. Here’s to hoping insurance will pay to bring it back to it’s glory.

Ouch! At least it looks like the prop wasn’t hit….

Not sure whether it was tied down or not. The aircraft wings, fuselage, struts, tail every part of it was creased so it wont be viable to fix. The 172 broke a wing spar….

It seems like very few airports have proper tiedown points or cables instead relying on small concrete blocks of maybe 100lb…also the tiedown ropes or straps are often woefully inadequate….Cessna recommends 700 lb tensile strength…

Leaving a high wing aircraft in strong wind without proper tiedowns is asking for trouble.
